Adult Programs

Travel Movie - Wednesdays @ 1:00 pm : You don't have to leave Avalon to go on a great adventure this summer! Come to the library every Wednesday for a special trip across the world. Visit Europe by train, take an African safari, study the Northern Lights, and more! Each adventure will last roughly 90 minutes. 

Outdoor Book Sale - Saturday, June 22nd, 9:30-3 : Stop by the library to shop from an assortment of fiction, non-fiction, and children's books; as well as CDs and DVDs! All proceeds benefit the library.

Author Visit with Paula Reed Ward, 'Death by Cyanide: The Murder of Dr. Autumn Klein' - Tuesday, June 25th @ 7:00 pm : The Pittsburgh medical community was stunned in 2013 over the sudden death of Dr. Autumn Klein. They were even more stunned when it was determined that her husband had used cyanide to kill her. Join Paula Reed Ward, Courts Reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, as she shares more about this intense true crime and her process for writing about it. 

Glow in the Dark Painting - Friday, July 12th @ 7:00 pm : Bring your creativity to this special summer art program! We will have the supplies you need to make an amazing glow in the dark picture to take home with you. This program has a $10 fee to help purchase materials. 

Community Hike at Vinegar Hollow - Sunday, July 14th @ 2:00 pm : Meet library staff at Vinegar Hollow in Ben Avon as we hike on the trail exploring the nature all around us. 

Crystal & Rock Identification - Tuesday, July 23rd @ 6:30 pm : There are always shiny objects on a good adventure and this is no exception! We will have a large variety of crystals to explore, materials to help you identify the type of crystal you are holding, and a special take-home gift for all that attend this program!

 Story Times : Visit us for one of our story times for themed books and a craft! Mondays @ 10:30 am, Tuesdays @ 6:30 pm, Fridays @ 10:30 am

D&D Group - Thursdays, 9:00-12:00 : This club will be meeting to learn how to start a D&D campaign and play with others. This club is limited to 4-5 players. Register for this program by emailing weleskih2@avalonlibrary.org.

STEAM Camp - June 17th to 21st, 2:00-4:00 pm : Table Top Game Design: Tabletop game design involves crafting engaging experiences played on a table, with key lessons including defining clear objectives, balancing mechanics for depth, fostering player interaction, ensuring accessibility with intuitive rules, integrating themes seamlessly, and prioritizing high-quality components. Join us as we partner with VGCUSA for this weekly camp for kids!

After-Hours Adventure in the Library - Monday, July 8th @ 6:30 pm : Bring your blankets and some pillows to the library for this special evening program for families! Families will get to create their own reading fort among the library shelves to snuggle under and enjoy the library after it is closed for the day!
